Frequently Asked Questions
What can you expect from a massage session?
You can expect your therapist to always conduct him/herself in a professional manner. Wolff Creek Massage provides all necessary equipment including massage table, sheets, and oil or lotion. We also provide soft music unless otherwise requested.
The therapist will work systematically addressing each area of the body including anything specified by the client. An example of a typical massages begins lying face down with the therapist uncovering and working the back, neck, and shoulders. The back then is covered and one leg is undraped to begin working one leg at a time. This usually includes into the hip area and feet. About half way through, you roll over onto your back and the therapist can begin with the front side of the legs. This also allows for some great arm work and maybe a little extra again on the shoulders and neck. Most therapists allow for time to do a little scalp and facial massage as well. A massage routine may vary depending on the various preferences of both client and practicioner
It is nice if you can provide a clear space with enough room for a massage table and the therapist to be able to walk around the entire table. (Approximately 6'X 10")
How do I get ready? What do you need me to do?
While the therapist is setting up for the massage, you will be filling out a short health intake form for us to go over with you to discuss any special needs or concerns you may have. We will want to know your ideas about how you want your massage to be.
If available, it is nice to put on a robe for the convenience of getting on and off the table and staying warm and comfortable. It is not necessary however; the therapist will leave the room to allow you privacy for undressing and getting on and off the table.
Do I take my clothes off?
For a full body relaxation massage, most people undress completely (underwear is worn at your discretion). Your privacy is respected at all times as you are warmly covered with clean flannel sheets. Only the area being massaged is exposed. Most massage techniques utilized by Wolff Creek Massage needs the use of oil or cream to allow for glide along the skin surface. This is best done without clothes worn.
If you are only comfortable with keeping your clothes on we will accommodate you and can provide massage relief thru clothing.
What type of training is Required?
Currently, massage therapy is not federally regulated. Every state sets ups its own language of law and licensure regarding training, education and practice. Massage therapy in the state of Montana is currently unregulated but progress is being made to ensure regulation in the near future.
Generally speaking if your therapist has a license (whether it be federal, state or both), then your practitioner has had in depth training in Anatomy/Physiology, Kinesiology, Pathology and Treatment, general Swedish Massage techniques and training in various other styles of massage. To obtain a license, a therapist must pass a rigorous exam and attend a determined amount of education. Usually a minimum of 500 hours is expected.
Furthermore, most professional massage therapists will belong to a reputable organization such as the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA), or the American Bodyworks and Massage Professionals (AMBP). Members of these groups uphold the highest standards of ethics and professionalism in the industry.
